Help Dumfries Buy Back It's High Street!

Midsteeple Quarter is a community benefit society based in Dumfries made up of people passionate about changing the face of our town centre.
Having taken ownership of our first building at 135-139 High Street in November 2018, we need your help to respond to an emergency situation as the next series of buildings we were working towards securing are set to be auctioned off on 5 February.
We were recently granted money from the Scottish Land Fund to prepare plans and negotiate with the London-based pension fund Threadneedle for a community buy-out of 113-119 High Street. But a high-level decision within the pension fund has been taken to dump a significant number of their derelict Scottish buildings – and without any warning, 113-119 High Street is now up for commercial sale.
We need your help as citizens of Dumfries and the wider world to come together and support us to buy these two High Street buildings that are set to be traded amongst property speculators in the upcoming auction.
Chair of Midsteeple Quarter, Scott Mackay said: ‘We have decided to launch a fightback again the cycle of outside property speculation that has blighted our town for decades. All over Scotland, communities are taking back control of land from absentee landlords and now Dumfries is leading the way as the first community buy-out of a High Street in the country. We have the organisation in place to attract public investment to Dumfries that would see these buildings as part of a prosperous future, a future that would see part of our High Street held in common ownership by local people. We need your help to make it happen.’
Midsteeple Quarter has already attracted significant support from the Scottish Government and Dumfries and Galloway Council. Our plan is to improve ground floor space in the Quarter to support culture and local enterprises get up and running, with the upper floors being dedicated to the first new housing on the high street for generations. Building works at 135-139 High Street are scheduled to start in early 2020.
All contributors will become part-owners of the entire Midsteeple Quarter project, any donation will support us to make our ambitious plan for our town centre a reality.

Should we be unsuccessful in bidding on the properties we propose using the money raised towards building new community-owned flats for rent above 'The Oven' building, that Midsteeple Quarter will re-develop next year.
