We want your help to create a wildlife-friendly, attractive and inclusive community garden at the Gloucestershire Heritage Hub.

by Gloucestershire Heritage Hub in Gloucester, England, United Kingdom

*Update! We have also been raising money offline through a donations box and a bake sale, and this has currently raised over £300 for #ShrubHub on top of the total raised online. Thank you so much!*

Who are we?

Hello! We are the Gloucestershire Heritage Hub, and we are based in Kingsholm, in the centre of Gloucester.

What do we want?

We want you to support #ShrubHub, our exciting plan to transform our garden into a community garden.

What are we trying to do?

Kingsholm suffers from a severe lack of green space, but has a wonderful community and heritage spirit. Many local people don’t have gardens or access to green space and this is only getting worse with new homes being built close to the city centre.

We have a good sized outdoor space which is currently bare and uninteresting. We want to make this into an accessible, wildlife-friendly, community garden which can be used and enjoyed by our neighbours, schools and community groups, as well as Hub visitors and staff.

Why?

We want people to be able to use the garden as if it was their own. We want to encourage animals, birds and insects into a part of Gloucester where wildlife struggles. We want to establish native and heritage plants in the busy city centre.

How will we do this?

We have a design for our garden which includes an area for beehives, a wildflower meadow, a more formal garden, raised beds, an outdoor education area, a pond and lots of lovely places for people to sit and enjoy the space. To achieve this, we need to raise £5,000.

When will this happen?

We want to start laying out and planting the garden this spring (2019) so that our new shrubs, flowers and trees can grow this summer. In the autumn we will be introducing two beehives to the garden.

So what do we want from you?

Whatever you can spare! And if you can add Giftaid onto it, please do as it allows us to claim more money from your donation.

And if you can’t give money, how about donating some unwanted plants or tools that can help us maintain the garden? Or donate your time: we’ll need lots of help to create and maintain the garden.

Whatever you can give will be appreciated. Thank you!
